The work describes 2,500 identified blazoned coats of arms. Building on the work of Louis Le Clert and François Chandon de Briailles, Ph. Palasi undertook a systematic survey in the department of Aube of all media likely to have preserved traces of coats of arms (books, architecture, paintings, gold and silverware, stained-glass windows, fireplace plaques, etc.).
