[Nièvre] – Travel writing case, with a fawn-coloured calfskin label bearing the name ‘Jacques Manuel de la Nièvre, Member of the National Assembly’. Long-grained Empire-style green morocco leather, opening to form a writing desk and revealing two gusseted compartments. The upper opening section of the writing desk is divided into four sections (pencil case, inkwells, pen holder). The whole fastens with a lock (no key). The exterior is worn. Contains personal papers belonging to the Manuel family, including: - Decree appointing Jacques Manuel as a senator (26 January 1852) and a decree granting an allowance of 20,000 francs. - Decree appointing Jacques Manuel to the rank of Officer of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour (30 June 1853). - Passport issued by the Senate to Senator Jacques Manuel, dated 13 July 1854. - Document printed on the occasion of the funeral of Jacques-André Manuel (9 January 1857, 3 copies). - Portrait of Jacques-André Manuel published in the *Galerie des Représentants du Peuple* (1843) at the National Assembly - Biographical notes on Messrs Barbaroux and Manuel.
