A collection of three documents relating to the appointment of British military officers. 1/ – Appointment as colonel – A certificate issued by the administration of George III, King of England, appointing Lieutenant-Colonel William de Vismes as a colonel in the Royal Army in the 2nd Regiment of Foot Guards. St James’s, 26 January 1797. A vellum document (29 x 40 cm) signed by Woodmann and countersigned by Portland, bearing two embossed seals of the Royal Administration. 2/ – Two commissions from Queen Victoria concerning Henry Auriol Douglas de Vismes; the first dated 13 December 1851 appointing him First Lieutenant in the Royal Regiment of Artillery; the second dated 8 June 1862 appointing him Second Captain of a Battery in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Two documents on heavy paper; the first bearing a revenue stamp of one pound ten shillings on blue paper; the second bearing a revenue stamp of one pound ten shillings and the embossed seal of Queen Victoria’s Great Arms.
