A collection of four letters and three autograph notes by artists or writers. 1 /- Rodin, Auguste. – Note addressed to Mrs Waldeck-Rousseau apologising for being unable to accept an invitation, 11 September 1889. 2/ - Detaille, Edouard. - Note addressed ‘to his dear Georges’ thanking him for sending drawings and describing himself as a ‘poor victim’ of the flu, 16 December 1889. 3/ - Ziem, Félix. - Letter addressed to a ‘Dear friend’. Ziem complains of having been ‘blackballed by an overwhelming and irrevocable majority, rejected by the assembly of my fellow watercolourists, I am left alone with my dishonour (…) lost illusions, senseless slaps in the face, rivalries and other disheartening aspects of life; this one was missing from the collection and you will find out whether I brought it upon myself.
