Erasmus. *Môrias Enkômion* [*Moriae Encomium*, Latin form]: *Stultitiae Laudatio* [*In Praise of Folly*]. *Desiderii Erasmi declamatio*. *editio castigatissima*. London and Paris, Barbou, 1765. 12mo, contemporary binding in light-coloured calfskin, covers decorated with a double frame of gilt fillets, decorated raised spine, fillet on the edges, gilt edges – a small loss of leather on the first head block – [1 f. fx-title], XIII, (including the title page), 214 pp. Frontispiece ‘la Pazzia Regina del Mondo’ engraved by Longueil after Gravelot, attractive vignette at the top of page 9. Latin edition of *In Praise of Folly*, written by Erasmus whilst staying with his friend Thomas More, to whom it is dedicated. The Greek title on the title page is a play on words that can be interpreted as a “Praise of More”. This edition is the work of Anne-Gabriel Meusnier de Querlon, who was also the first publisher of Montaigne’s journal, rediscovered in 1770.
