A collection of works by the surrealist poet, painter and sculptor Max Bucaille, well known for his collages and fantastical paintings blending photography and painting. Included are works illustrated by him. 1/ - Bucaille, Max and Robert - *Les Pays égarés*. Paris, René Debresse on behalf of ‘Le Loup Pendu’, 1937. In-8, paperback with black-and-white illustrated cover – 48 pp., [3 ff, colophon, completed, blank endpapers]. Illustrated with 7 plates of collages by the Bucaille brothers. Printed in a run of 205 copies; this one is one of the 200 on ‘Du Roy Louis’ paper, Berry green (no. 133). First edition. Enclosed is a letter with a drawing, addressed to Mr Achille Chavée: “A thousand thanks for the Prix de l’Évidence, which was of great help to me during my recent illness” (1 September 1961, with envelope). Achille Chavée (1906–1969) was a French-speaking Belgian poet and a leading figure in Walloon Surrealism. 2/ – Bucaille, Max. – *Entre le sommeil et le noir*. [Paris], Le Nyctalope, 1982. In-8 format, loose-leaf in an illustrated cover (diver) – [6 ff., including 1 blank page, title page, preface, colophon]. Illustrated with 12 collages. A print run of 500 copies; this is one of 465 on vellum (no. 178). Included is a signed autograph handwritten note by Bucaille, featuring a collage thanking his correspondent for sending a ‘precious collection’, dated 9 October 1959. 4/ - Bucaille, Max. - Les Cris de la fée. Illustrated with 3 collages. Booklet produced in May 1950 to mark the exhibition of Mr Bucaille’s works at the Galerie Rive Gauche. Printed in a run of 990 copies; this is one of the 980 ‘Alfama’ copies (no. 706), personalised with Mr Bucaille’s signature. 7/ - Arnaud, Noêl – Bucaille, Max. - *L’État d’ébauche*. Paris, Le Messager boiteux, 1951. 8vo, paperback with an illustrated, padded cover – [10 ff.]. Illustrated with a frontispiece, a title vignette and 23 illustrations by Bucaille (including one full-page illustration and the cover). Printed in a run of 502 copies, one of the 298 on white vellum paper. The first book in the ‘D’un Certain Prix’ collection. The work is enhanced by a beautiful author’s signed proof.
