Neruda, Pablo. – *Arte de Pàjaros*. Illustrations by Nemesio Antunez, Mario Carreño, Hector Herrera and Mario Toral. Santiago de Chile, Sociedad de Amigos del Arte Contemporáneo, 1966. Large quarto (37.8 x 33 cm), full fawn calfskin binding with a smooth spine, black title label (running lengthwise), – front cover missing, binding with scuff marks, edges of endpapers scorched – 105 pp. (frontispiece, title page, list of birds, prologue by Flavian Levine, 50 poems, list of illustrators), [1 p. colophon and justification]. Illustrated with 17 colour plates printed in offset, mounted on leaves forming part of the pagination, and 50 large ornate initials, printed in green. The 50 poems are themed around birds, whose scientific or imaginary names are listed at the beginning of the volume.Printed in an edition of 214 copies; this is one of the 200 printed on ‘Hich Bridge’ laid paper (unnumbered). First edition published to mark the author’s 60th birthday. Illustrations by painters who were friends of Pablo Neruda: Hector HERRERA (5), Mario CARREÑO (4), Nemesio ANTÙNEZ (4), Mario TORAL (4).
