Jean-Joseph Mounier (1758-1806) was a royal judge in Grenoble and, with Barnave, instigated the meeting of the Dauphiné States in Vizille in July 1788. President of the National Constituent Assembly, he was one of the main representatives of the group of monarchists, who favoured an English-style constitutional monarchy.
