[Constitution] La Constitution française, présentée au Roi le 3 septembre 1791, et acceptée par sa Majesté le 14 du même mois. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, 1791. One volume in-16, full red morocco, smooth spine decorated, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, all edges gilt. VIII, 179 pp. Corners worn. First edition of the first French constitution, which was in force until 10 August 1792. It is preceded by the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and ends with the engraved signatures of those who ratified the constitution (including the King). The table of contents occupies the last 50 pages. This Constitution abolished the notion of divine right, which gave the king absolute power over France; he now bore the title of King of the French".
