P., Published by Pollet, Mathieu, n.d., folio, engraved title page and 157 pp. of engraved scores, half-green vellum binding with worn corners, publisher’s signature ‘Pollet’.
A fine copy, with some scuffing on the covers.
After completing his musical studies, he entered the service of the Cardinal de Rohan; he then joined the Swiss Guards’ band, before joining the orchestra of the Théâtre de Monsieur in 1788 as a bassoonist. He distinguished himself through his talent for the flute and the bassoon. Devienne had a general knowledge of all other instruments and knew how to elicit effects from them that were unknown in France. (Fétis-III-10)
