Coquebert, S.D., (1846), 8vo, 324 pp., publisher’s cardboard binding with blind-stamped and gilt decoration. First edition, illustrated with vignettes and 10 woodcuts as inserts, in its original binding with special embossed designs. A leading French work of speculative fiction. Deliberately put to sleep by Mr John Progrès, who came to find them from the future whilst riding an aerial steam locomotive. Marthe and Maurice wake up in the year 3000, believing they are living ‘in a better world and under fairer laws!’.
