Description
Rodolphe Topffer. Genevan Short Stories, illustrated from the author’s own drawings. P., J.-J. Dubochet et Cie., 1845, 8vo, VII–350 pp. and 1 folio, full shagreen with plates, covers and spine decorated with special dies, interior lace. A few foxing spots, spine slightly faded; a fine copy in a rare plate-bound binding. The publisher’s binding is characteristic; it is rare in shagreen, decorated with gilt tools reproducing the cover and scenes from the book; it is more commonly found in percaline. Unfortunately, the text is often worm-eaten, which means that a fairly large number of copies have been washed and then rebound in their original cardboard covers. One of Töpffer’s fine works, very rare in fine condition. (Vicaire-VII-859) (Carteret-586)
