Honoré de Balzac. *The Story of the Poor Parents*, *Cousin Bette and the Two Musicians*, *Cousin Pons, or the Two Musicians*. P., Imprimerie de Boniface, [1846], quarto, 364–172 pp. – 1 folio, contemporary half-green calf, decorated spine, split joints, cap ends torn off. Good margins. Genuine first edition of *Cousin Bette*, a fine copy in its contemporary binding. Reprint of the serialised version from *Le Constitutionnel*. Balzac’s novel is preceded by *Les grands danseurs du Roi* by Charles Rabou; the pagination runs consecutively for both works, and *La Cousine Bette* begins with its title on page 85 and continues through to page 364. In the same volume, other serials from *Le Constitutionnel*—also by Balzac—were bound at the time: *Eugénie Grandet*, *El Verdugo*, *La Grenadière*, *Le Colonel Chabert*, *Le Réquisitionnaire*, *La Femme de Trente ans* and *La Recherche de l’Absolu*.
