Description
CHATEAUBRIAND. François-René (1768- 1848).
10 July 1832. 1 letter of 3 pages in-8, trace of fold.
Beautiful autograph letter signed, addressed to "Mon cher abbé".
Following the attempted uprising in the Vendée initiated by the Duchess of Berry, whom Chateaubriand accompanied, he was imprisoned and then released on 30 June 1832.
He spoke of his impending exile: ".... we are going, my old friend, to take the road of exile again: definitively, we will settle in Luzerne if the country is not too cold.... or in Lugano if Luzerne could not suit Mde de Chateaubriand...". And to conclude: "... I embrace you with my friendship of thirty years... as a freed prisoner...".
