[17th-century commerce] ANSALDI, Ansaldo. *Discursus Legales, de Commercio et Mercatura*. A seminal work on the emergence of commercial law. Caloniae Allobrogum (Geneva), published by the Fratres de Tournes, 1698 Folio, cream vellum binding, ribbed spine with calligraphic title. In Latin. (20)-435-(81) pages, headbands, initials and tailpieces. Spine worn with loss of vellum along the raised bands and wormholes at the top and bottom, corners worn, minor restoration to the lower margin of the title page, foxing. An important treatise on commercial law by Ansaldo Ansaldi (1651–1719), a Florentine jurist and man of letters. This work, first published in 1689, comments on the rulings of the courts of Genoa, Livorno and Florence concerning contracts of sale, mortgages and insurance. Handwritten ex-libris on the title page reading ‘Jacobi Micheletti’. A fine copy.
