Amsterdam and Leipzig: Arkstée & Merkus, 1754. 6 tomes in 6 volumes in-12, each bound in full fawn calfskin, smooth spine decorated with grotesque motifs, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, guilloché caps, gilt and marbled edges. 2 unnumbered folios, XX, 1 unnumbered folio (table of contents), 414 pp.; 2 unnumbered folios, 446 pp., 1 unnumbered folio (errata); 4 unnumbered folios and 428 pp.; 2 unnumbered folios, XII and 420 pp.; 2 unnumbered folios, XII and 395 pp.; 2 unnumbered folios, XII and 369 pp., publisher’s catalogue (11 unnumbered folios). 1 portrait and 5 plates in Volume I, 1 frontispiece and 13 plates in Volume II, 1 frontispiece in Volume IV . Minor scuffing from handling, scattered foxing. Collected edition, ‘considerably expanded’, and illustrated with a total of 3 frontispieces and 18 figures drawn by Blakey, Wale and Walker and engraved by Fritzsch. Handwritten bookplates in volumes I and V: ‘DPMCOC to Mathilde’. A very fine set.
