Description
[LOWCASE] ROBERTI, Giovanni Battista. A Short Treatise on the Lesser Virtues. Paris and Tournai, H. Casterman, 1860. In-32 (172 x 480 mm), full red shagreen, spine with three raised bands, embossed grid pattern with gilt flowers at the corners, inner border adorned with a double gilt line, dotted gilt line at the edges, gilt edges. XI and 142 pp. A delightful miniature edition in a full binding, perfectly executed and well preserved. In this short treatise, translated by F.L.J. Labis, Giovanni Battista Roberti (1719–1786), an Italian Jesuit scholar and man of letters, extols the ordinary virtues, which underpin Christian morality. It is followed by ‘Saint Louis’s Advice to the Duchess of Burgundy’. In fine condition.
