First edition illustrated by F. Coindre, whose drawings vividly capture the working-class folk, the streets, the small trades and the slums of the capital. A study of the author’s life by Alfred Delvau. A friend of Baudelaire, Alexandre Privat d’Anglemont (1815–1859) is regarded as one of the finest chroniclers of ‘bohemian’ Paris.
One of 50 copies printed on Japanese paper; this unnumbered copy contains a second state with notes.
