Small quarto, plum-coloured half-maroquin with corner pieces, spine with fine raised lines, speckled head, covers and spine well preserved. Rebound, signed ‘Atelier Lardenchet’. 219 pp., photographic reproductions on coated paper, fold-out map. Small stain on the front cover. First edition. A missionary of the Society of African Missions, Joseph Gorju (1873–1924) was one of the key figures in the evangelisation of the Ivory Coast, appointed pro-vicar in 1912 and vicar general in 1922. In excellent condition, with a good later binding.
