Large 8vo, half-maroquin with corners edged with a gilt band, plain spine decorated with a gilt square and a quadruple gilt line, covers of gilt-grained paper, gilt head, untrimmed, original double cover and spine preserved. 351 pp. First edition. One of 62 numbered special copies from Madagascar, this one not for sale (no. III). A superb copy, enhanced by a beautiful autograph dedication signed by the author to Paul Fonte (?), ‘first reader’ and ‘true patron of this work’. A copy with full margins in perfect condition, complete with its double cover.
