Description
[IVORY COAST] JOSEPH, Gaston. The Ivory Coast. The country – its people. A seminal study, with a wealth of illustrations. Paris, Emile Larose, 1917. Large 8vo, brown half-morocco, spine with fine raised bands, covers preserved. 223 pp., 53 plates reproduced on coated paper, maps in the text and a fold-out map at the end. Minor repairs to the front cover and the half-title page; paper slightly browned. First edition of this study on French Ivory Coast, written by the colonial administrator Gaston Joseph (1884–1977) and with a preface by Governor Gabriel Angoulvant. It provides a comprehensive overview of the territory (geography, populations, customs, activities), its administrative organisation and prospects for development. A fine copy, well bound.
