Description
HALÉVY, Daniel. Signed autograph letter addressed to Henri Buriot-Darsiles.
A long letter concerning the publication and his recent appointment as head of the *Cahiers Verts* series at Grasset, a collection of which he would be editor from 1921 to 1937.
6½ pages, in-12 format (184 x 112 mm). No place, 6 January 1921.
Paper slightly browned at the margins.
With some delay and a sense of remorse, he explains to Henri Buriot-Darsiles – who is trying to get German dictionaries published – the growing difficulties facing the publishing industry. “We need to sell at least 3,000 copies, or we’ll just be treading water”…
He mentions a proposal he has just received: “Grasset has asked me to edit a series of *Cahiers* for him… you know that everything is called a *Cahier* these days. In fact, it’s a series of books in various formats – novels, essays, studies… – which I would select. I’ve accepted”…
This is followed by a long, nostalgic reflection on Italy.
