Description
LOREDANO, Giovan Francesco. Six works, including the *Novelle amorose*.
Venetian editions of six of Loredano’s works, representative of 17th-century Italian Baroque literature.
Venice, Guerigli, 1653–1657.
Six works in a sturdy in-12 volume, soft full vellum, straight spine with three raised bands, bearing the calligraphic title ‘Loredano parte 3’.
Engraved title pages.
Binding slightly browned, small wormholes at the foot of the spine, upper hinge open.
Venetian editions, printed by Guerigli, bringing together six works by Giovan Francesco Loredano (1607–1661), a prolific Italian poet and man of letters.
The volume opens with the *Novelle amorose*, a collection of romantic and moral short stories, with a deeply engraved title signed ‘Piccino’, probably Isabella Piccini. The five titles that follow deal with political and religious subjects (the life of Pope Alexander III, the biblical story of Adam, hagiography, devotional texts).
Contains:
- *Novelle amorose*. 1656. 117 pp.
- *Vita d’Alessandro Terzo*. 1653. Frontispiece, 105 and 7 unnumbered folios.
- *L’Adamo* (The Life of Adam). 1653. 82 pp.
- *Vita di San Giovanni*. 1655. 82 pp.
- Sensi di devotione. 1657. 108 pp.
- Gradi dell’anima. 1656. 108 pp.
An excellent collection in a contemporary binding.
