An excellent bilingual edition, in a fine contemporary binding, of this tragicomedy which marks the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque. Paris, published by Claude Barbin, 1667. 12mo, bound in ivory vellum with overcover, straight spine. 10 unnumbered folios and 573 pages, engraved title page and 5 separate engravings. Vellum slightly soiled, title on spine faded. A bilingual edition, in Italian and French, illustrated with 5 engravings introducing the 5 acts of this tragicomedy by Guarini (1538–1612), which enjoyed immense success and exerted a major influence on Baroque theatre and music in Europe. A fine copy in a contemporary binding.
