Pierrefonds Castle is a medieval fortress built at the request of Louis d’Orléans to defend the region during the Hundred Years’ War. In 1617, on the orders of Louis XIII, the castle was largely dismantled. Left in a state of ruin, it was restored from 1857 onwards by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc at the request of Napoleon III, who transformed it into a spectacular reinterpretation of the medieval castle.
A fine copy.
