Description
[CYPRUS]. Two maps of the island by Sebastian Münster (1488–1552). Woodcuts (10 x 15 cm) on laid paper (31 x 20 cm). Both copies are taken from the famous *Cosmographia Universalis*, Sebastian Münster’s (1488–1552) major Renaissance treatise on geography, and the text also includes an engraving of a stag and a sheep drinking. One of the two is from the first French edition (Basel, 1552 – paper restored and bleached), the other from a German edition, most likely from the years 1545 to 1555 (two small tears, frayed margins, water stains on the margins, four wormholes, browned paper and traces of graphite on the engraving of the animals). Rare copies from the mid-16th century.
