Large in-4, blue morocco, richly decorated and mosaiced ribbed spine, wide border framing the covers composed of gilt, cold and mosaic motifs with central medallion with the imperial eagle, gilt fillet on the edges, int. roulette, gilt and chased edges with, among others, the engraved names of the battles of Dresden, Marengo, Arcole, Pyramides, Iéna, Lodi & Austerlitz (Piton).
First edition illustrated with a title vignette and 47 hors-texte plates on Chine appliqué including two frontispiece portraits of the emperor, all engraved by Fauchery, Alfred and Tony Johannot, etc. after Devéria, Steuben, Scheffer, Lami, etc.
A work dedicated to Napoleon, whom the author considered a hero. He had fought at his side during the Spanish campaigns.
A superb copy in a signed binding by Frédéric Théodore Piton (1800 - 1871), a bookbinder from Strasbourg. A few scattered brown spots.
