Description
LE CAT (Claude-Nicolas). Cours abrégé d'ostéologie. Rouen, Veuve Besongne, 1767.
In-8 marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, triple gilt fillet framing the covers (contemporary binding). Covers and corners worn.
Beautiful engraved allegorical vignette to the title. Complete with the large folding plate in fine (creased, a few tears without missing). Light spotting.
Rare first edition of this treatise by the famous Rouen physician and surgeon Claude Nicolas Le Cat (1700-1768), to whom we also owe the Traité des sens. He moved to Rouen in 1729 as surgeon to his patron, Archbishop La Vergne de Tressan, and became chief surgeon of the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in Rouen in 1731, where he set up a dissection theatre in March 1736.
