Description
[PERCHEL (Abbé)]. High Mass celebrated by abbé Perchel, Conseiller-Clerc du ci-devant soi-disant Conseil Supérieur de Rouen. sl, at the expense of the Conseil Supérieur, 1774.
In-12 of 20 pp. Red half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated, gilt title, date on tail, covers preserved (Lemardeley).
The bloodiest satire ever published against the Conseil supérieur. It was directed mainly against Abbé Perchel, promoter of the chapître, councillor-clerk of the Parlement de Normandie, who had made himself unpopular by sitting on the Conseil Supérieur, or Parlement Maupeou. Abbé Perchel died in Rouen at the age of 76, locked up in the prison of the Palais de Justice, on 26 June 1794. The Conseil Supérieur created in Rouen by an edict of December 1771 was abolished, and the Cour des Comptes, Aides et Finances de Normandie was re-established on 12 November 1774 by an edict of October of the same year.
The reprint made by the Société rouennaise des bibliophiles was made on a copy of this edition.
