Anne-Geneviève de Bourbon (1619-1679), sister of Louis II de Bourbon-Condé, was one of the leading figures of the Fronde during the minority of Louis XIV. A cultivated and influential woman of the Parisian salons, she married Henri II d'Orléans, Governor of Normandy, in 1642. During the Fronde, she tried to stir up the partisans there against the royal power after the arrest of her husband and brothers, but failed to mobilise the province. Later, disgraced at court, she withdrew in part to Normandy to be with her husband.
Close to Jansenist circles at the end of her life, a patron of Port-Royal, she frequented figures such as Blaise Pascal and Jean Racine. She remains one of the great female and political figures of 17th-century France.
Armorial bookplate (coats of arms of Le Cerf de la Tourelle and Grossin de Bouville, according to a handwritten pencil note on the flyleaf). Ex-libris JM (Barbier IV, 992.)
