In-4 of [5] ff, 564 pp, 3 engraved plates out of text: portrait of the author engraved by Scotin after Jouvenet in frontispiece, portrait of the cardinal d'Amboise and tomb of the cardinal in the cathedral of Rouen, head vignette engraved in intaglio with portrait of King Louis XV as a child. Brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title page (contemporary binding). Covers and corners worn.
Georges d'Amboise, known as the Cardinal d'Amboise, born in 1460 at the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, near Amboise, and died on 25 May 1510 in Lyon, Cardinal and Archbishop of Rouen from 1498, was the principal adviser to King Louis XII and a French patron of the arts.
