Description
Daniel CROZES. The Laguiole – A Legendary History. [31756] Editions du Rouergue, 1996, in/4 paperback, 156 pages. Colour illustrations. “Author of the famous *De corne et d’acier* – the first book on this legendary knife, which first appeared in the early 19th century on the Aubrac plateau – Daniel Crozes gives us a glimpse into private collections, where items such as a knife carved in Thiers by Nicolas Crocombettes, such a three-piece ivory knife produced in Laguiole in the workshops of Pagès or Jules Calmels, or even this magnificent model whose spring-loaded pommel is adorned with a crocodile. Indeed, whilst the Laguiole was originally a farm knife, made of horn and steel for the buronniers of the Aubrac, its elegant lines, skilful construction and the talent of its designers transformed it, by the end of the 19th century, into a collector’s item. Ivory and buffalo horn were then adorned with precious stones… Today, its story continues to unfold through the people and the country, whilst designers such as Sonia Rykiel, Philippe Starck, Eric Raffy, Yan Pennor and Hermès are in turn creating original designs that boldly reinterpret the Laguiole knife’s silhouette. Daniel Crozes recounts the history of this cult object with great verve."
