Description
Metzinger, Jean. *Cubism Was Born – Memoirs*. [31912] Editions Présence 1972, in/8 paperback, 63 pages. “Jean Dominique Antony Metzinger, born on 24 June 1883 in Nantes and died on 3 November 1956 in Paris, was a French painter, art theorist, writer, art critic and poet. His early works, from 1900 to 1904, appear to have been influenced by the Neo-Impressionism of Georges Seurat and Henri-Edmond Cross. Between 1904 and 1907, Metzinger worked in the Divisionist and Fauvist styles. From 1908 onwards, he was directly involved with Cubism, both as a theorist and as an artist within the movement. Jean Metzinger, in collaboration with Albert Gleizes, wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, *Du Cubisme*, in 1912. Metzinger was a founding member of the Section d’Or."
