Jean Lasne (1911–1940), together with Robert de La Fresnaye, was a member of the group ‘Les Forces nouvelles’, founded in 1935, immediately following the 1934 exhibition and rediscovery of the great masters of 17th-century realist painting – notably Le Nain, La Tour and the French Caravaggisti. This group sought to revitalise Cubism, without rejecting it.
