Description
QUATREMERE DE QUINCY. A historical account of the life and works of Mr Houdon. [23079)
n.p., 1829. Leaflet in-4 (27 x 22 cm), stapled in a temporary cover, 10 pages. Waterstains.
Read at the public session of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts on 2 October 1841. Jean-Antoine Houdon: Born in Versailles in 1741, he entered the Royal School for Protected Pupils at a very young age, where he devoted himself to sculpture. In 1761, he won the Prix de Rome competition and spent the years 1764 to 1768 in Rome. It was there, in 1767, that he created his famous *Ecorché*, which demonstrates both his keen interest in the anatomy of the human body and his desire to reproduce nature faithfully.
