“Originally from Lyon, it is in the south – where I have lived for some twenty years – that I have been exploring the theme of landscape through my painting. There is no relentless, sweltering Mediterranean sun in the landscapes I paint, but rather a fragile winter light, battling against scattered mists, struggling to warm the natural world. Inner, imaginary landscapes: my paintings borrow from reality a vocabulary that defines me – vast skies, a distant horizon, sparse, muted vegetation, the silhouettes of bare trees, as if sketched at the edge of still bodies of water. Between ponds and the sea, these damp, silent landscapes, where time seems to stand still, are bathed in a soft, elusive light that lends my canvases an unfinished quality, verging on Impressionism."
