(2) ff. 320 pp. 61 full-page engravings. First edition of this account by the geographer and explorer Charles Rabot (1856-1944) in which the author recounts his travels in northern Russia: crossings of Lapland, expeditions to Karelia and as far as the icy shores of the White Sea. Rabot describes the Arctic landscapes, the Sami and Karelian populations and his ethnographic and geographical observations. 2/ BOULANGIER (Edgar). Voyage à Merv. Les Russes dans l'Asie centrale et le chemin de fer transcaspien. Paris, Hachette, 1888. Full cloth post, leather title-piece, cons. cover (Ateliers Laurenchet). III, 451 pp. Scattered foxing. Off-text engravings and maps. First edition of this account of the Merv region (now Turkmenistan). Edgar Boulangier (1850 - 1899), journalist and traveller, describes the political and military stakes in the region, the Russian presence, the construction of the Trans-Caspian railway and the local populations. 3/ LÉOUZON LEDUC (L.). Studies on Russia and Northern Europe. Récits et Souvenirs. Paris, Amyot, s.d. (ca. 1854). Contemporary half-chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated. Slight rubbing and scattered foxing. (2) ff. 472 pp. First edition. Louis Léouzon Leduc (1815-1889), publicist and journalist, was one of the great French popularisers of Russian history and politics in the 19th century. Here he gives his impressions of his travels, his thoughts on the society and institutions of imperial Russia, and notes on international relations on the eve of the Crimean War.
