Second French edition of this important and rare travel account. Henri Barth (1821-1865), a German explorer and geographer, was one of the greatest travellers of his time. As a member of the Richardson Expedition, he travelled across the Sahara, Sudan and the Chad Basin, spending several years in Timbuktu and the kingdoms of Bornou and Sokoto.
