One large volume in-8, full green morocco, spine with 5 broadly decorated bands, boards in the style of Du Seuil, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt head, wide gilt inner lace, covers preserved (binding by Louis GUÉTANT). Slight foxing to endpapers.
First separate edition of this comic tale, illustrated with 17 etchings by Paul Avril, engraved by Édouard Léon and Raoul Serres.
Limited edition of 400 copies. This is one of 100 on Whatman containing 2 states of the etchings (n°142).
From the library of the Marquis Etienne-Noé de Salvert-Bellenaves with his red morocco bookplate on the spine of the first plate, then from the de Quélen family with its heraldic bookplate engraved with the Breton motto "Empeb Emser Quelen" (Quelen always vigorous).
