Description
China, Qianlong period, 18th century
Pair of large Hu-shaped vases in polychrome cloisonné enamels on copper, with main decoration on a blue background representing the eight Buddhist emblems (the endless knot Shrivatsa, the treasure vase, the Dharma wheel Chakra, the lotus Padma, the banner, the parasol Chatra, the conch, the double fish Matsya) alternating with lotus flowers, on a background of leafy stems. A double garland of ruyi separates the motifs on the body and neck, the latter repeating the lotus flower decoration. Two gilded copper dragon heads forming handles complete the ornamentation.
