MONUMENT ERECTED IN HONOUR OF ADMIRAL COURBET.
Large silver-plated bronze medal, 60 mm, view of the monument facing the sea, with a ship in the background.
Inscriptions around the rim; architect’s name and assistants’ names in the exergue – Engraver H. Dubois.
Reverse: “THIS MONUMENT, ERECTED IN ABBEVILLE THROUGH A NATIONAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN, WAS UNVEILED ON 17 AUGUST 1890”,
Medal awarded to LE MOINE, FRIGATE CAPTAIN.
Note: the monument was damaged by bombing during the First World War,
repaired but not restored, and has since been moved; it still exists but without its bronze cannons, which were seized in 1943 by the German occupying forces for metal recycling.
