Five different tokens: “Sté du Riz la + Angoulême 1000” – a square aluminium token, double-sided, with a 24 mm centre hole; the same in brass; and a 30 mm round nickel-plated metal token, with a hole in the centre, “good for 1,000 exercise books” with a circle of dots on the reverse + a multi-lobed brass disc “good for 500 exercise books” 30 mm circle of dots on the reverse, centre hole + 23 mm multi-lobed brass round token “paquetage”, double-sided strike. – all SUP / SUP+
( * ) Paper mill acquired in 1819 by Antoine LACROIX. Léonide Lacroix (1833–1906) registered the “RIZ LA +” cigarette paper trademark in 1860. In 1865, the famous cardboard booklet of cigarette rolling paper appeared. It was produced at home. In exchange for delivering 1,000 finished booklets to the mill, a token was issued; the maker then had to present his tokens, in batches of at least ten, to Lacroix’s cashier in order to receive his wages.
