FRANCE – PHALERISTICS – First World War: ‘SERBIAN DAY’.
Ovoid medal for wearing, gilded bronze, 25 June 1916, the date of the appeal for donations to the relief fund for Serbian refugees following the invasion of the country by Austrian and Bulgarian forces in 1915. Side-by-side busts of King Peter I and his son Alexander, “glorious defenders of Serbian freedom”, within a crowned circle surmounted by the double-headed eagle, centred between two eagle’s wings. Reverse: the same design featuring the crown and eagle, with coats of arms in the centre surrounded by the inscription ‘Glory to the intrepid Serbian heroes’ – SUP
