FRANCE – TWO BANKNOTES – “ECUS de BERGERAC” (24) – The two banknotes were issued in collaboration with CREDIT AGRICOLE to promote the introduction of the European currency, which had then been decided to be called the ECU but was ultimately announced as the EURO (European Currency Unit). - UNUSED BANKNOTES. A campaign organised from 3 to 15 April 1995, during which retailers in the Dordogne accepted the banknotes as payment; these could be exchanged at the Crédit Agricole branch in Bergerac, banknotes beautifully illustrated by Bernard Veyri, showcasing the Périgord, its cuisine and its architecture. On the obverse is a portrait of Cyrano de Bergerac, a character from the play by Edmond Rostand.
