CHATEAUROUX (36) – “1901 REGIONAL AGRICULTURAL COMPETITION” – Grand bronze medal by PONSCARME (*) – “French Republic” – head in profile to the left, long curly hair with a wing in the hair – Reverse: “Ministry of Agriculture” around the rim. In the centre: caduceus, bunch of grapes and vine, wheat, palm leaves … and the competition’s inscription. 51 mm – bronze, horn hallmark – 63.70 grams – SUP: gilded velvet patina. (*) Hubert PONCARME – born in 1827 in Belmont-les-Darney, Vosges; died in 1903 in Malakoff (92) – Pupil of Oudiné at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Second Grand Prix for engraving on medals and semi-precious stones in 1854; Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1855; portraitist of Napoleon III on medals. In 1871, he was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his pupils included Oscar Roty, Adolphe Rivet and others.
