FRANCE – STUDENT’S BICORNE FROM THE ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE, circa 1900 – Black felt and black silk, with a black braid around the rim embroidered with oak leaves. On the front, a tricolour cockade with 12 mm gold braid, held in place by a gold-plated metal uniform button marked ‘École Polytechnique’; in the centre, a breastplate with a helmet resting on crossed cannons and a naval anchor.
