KINGDOM OF SWEDEN – CIVIL SERVANT’S FORMAL BICORNE HAT, circa 1880–1900 – Black velvet with a cluster of five large twisted cords in gold thread at each point. In the centre, an 8.5 cm cockade, divided into four tricolour sections: blue, white and red. On the imposing cockade is embroidery featuring large braids and twists, known as ‘corkscrew’ twists, in gold thread. The twisted cords are secured by a gold-plated metal uniform button bearing the coat of arms of the Swedish monarchy: a crowned shield supported by two lions with forked tails, with the cord of the Order of the Seraphim beneath. - Interior: Cream leather, ivory silk lining with an illustrated mark by the hatmaker A.
