EDUCATION / NINE (9) SCHOOL UNIFORM BUTTONS FROM THE ALBERT LEGRAND SCHOOL IN ARCUEIL (94) – circa 1900 / 1920 - A caption runs around the edge of a cross (that of the Red Cross) pierced by a feather; this design reflects the turbulent history of this school, which, during the Paris Commune, experienced violent unrest whilst serving as an AMBULANCE, a treatment centre for wounded soldiers run by Dr Durand. The school was situated 2 km from the fortifications of Paris, at the foot of Fort de Montrouge. Founded by the Dominican Teachers, it was also known as the ‘House of the Dominicans of Arcueil’. - seven 18 mm buttons + 2 15 mm collar buttons - Manufacturer’s mark on the back: “La Belle Jardinière Paris”.
