circa 1920, ‘LE SOUVENIR FRANCAIS’ GRAND FEU ENAMEL BADGE ( * ). 30 x 26 mm. French flag, with a Catholic cross in the centre. Above this, a gold circle with a palm frond; the whole set within a banner reading ‘Le Souvenir Français’ – fastened with a pin at the back. ( * ) Founded in 1887 whilst the memory of the 1870 defeat was still fresh. The association works to keep the memory alive, erecting numerous monuments and taking part in ceremonies. During the First World War, it paid tribute to the soldiers “who died for France”. Today, after 135 years of continuous activity, it continues to honour the memory of those who ‘died for France’ and maintains their graves… 75,000 members in 2025, 1,600 local committees keeping the memory of French soldiers alive.
