THE FIRST WORLD WAR: ‘LE PAYS de FRANCE’ ( * ) - 1915 & 1916: a set of seventy-four (74) issues of this remarkable weekly news magazine, covering the life and deeds of the French soldier at the front during the First World War. (some in poor condition) ( * ) A large-format weekly publication (35.5 x 28 cm) published from 1914 until 26 November 1918 on the initiative of the major newspaper “Le Matin”. Initially intended for tourism (“the organ of the General Assembly of Tourism”), it adopted a patriotic stance from its third issue onwards, in July 1914, following the declaration of war. A particularly effective news publication, richly illustrated with numerous photographs taken by its journalists whilst covering the war, portraits of heroes and military leaders, accounts of battles, updates on the front, and detailed maps of the battlefronts. On the front page were portraits of commanding generals and politicians (the Tsar, kings and presidents from various countries); on the back cover was a full-page caricature by the talented illustrators of the time.
